Why Rangefinder
Built On Trust Since 2018
Local Crew, Local Ground
We know Midland, TX caliche, clay, and rock — and grade for it instead of fighting it.
Right-Sized Equipment
From ranch-scale dozers to precision grading for commercial pads, we bring the right iron.
Straightforward Pricing
No surprise add-ons. We scope the job up front and communicate through the whole project.
Built to Last
Proper compaction, proper drainage, proper grade — every time, not just when it's convenient.
Featured Project
Commercial Truck Wash — Site & Pad Construction
A highway-frontage commercial build that started as raw caliche and finished as a paved, striped lot handling loaded trucks all day. Every stage below is the same site, shot from the air.

Rough grade — 1 of 15
Day one on the highway frontage: the tract stripped, cut in, and rough-graded so the rest of the job has a flat, known starting point.
Scope of Work
- Site clearing and rough grade
- Building pad construction and compaction
- Truck-scale turn radius and drive lanes
- Underground utility trenching
- Drainage and finish grade
- Base section prepped for paving
Got a commercial pad, lot, or highway-frontage build in the Permian Basin? We can scope the dirt work the same way.

Where We Work
Areas We Serve
Midland and Odessa daily, and the towns around them on ranch and county-road ground. We reach as far as Lubbock, Abilene, Pecos and Fort Stockton when the job justifies the haul.

Excavation Questions We Get Asked Most
- What areas does Rangefinder Excavation serve?
- We are based in Midland, TX and work the greater Permian Basin — roughly Lubbock down to Fort Stockton, and Pecos across to Abilene. That includes Odessa, Big Spring, San Angelo, Monahans, Andrews, Sweetwater and Snyder. Jobs outside that range are worth a call; larger scopes justify a longer haul.
- What does excavation cost in Midland, TX?
- There is no honest flat rate, because the price is driven by things that change site to site: how much material moves, how far it has to be hauled, whether base material has to be imported, how much compaction the finished surface needs, and whether anything has to come out first. We quote line-itemed off an on-site look, so the number you get is the number you pay.
- Do you charge for estimates?
- No. On-site estimates are free across the Midland-Odessa core and the counties around it. On the outer edge of the map — Lubbock, Abilene, San Angelo, Fort Stockton — we will still come look, we just want to talk through the scope on the phone first so the trip makes sense for both of us. Dirt work priced off a photo is a guess.
- Do you own your own equipment?
- Yes. We run our own dozers, excavators and graders with our own crews, and we do not broker the dirt work out to someone else and mark it up. That is why a start date is a scheduling question here rather than a rental-yard availability problem.
- Are you prequalified to work for operators and general contractors?
- Yes. Rangefinder Excavation is an Avetta Consortium member (since July 2025) and received Avetta's Safety Star recognition for 2025, and we carry a D-U-N-S number. Avetta is the supplier prequalification network major operators use to vet contractors on safety, insurance and compliance before they are allowed on site.
- How long has Rangefinder Excavation been in business?
- Since 2018, working out of Midland across the Permian Basin.
