Our Commitment

Accessibility Statement

Rangefinder Excavation is committed to making our website usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology.

Our Commitment

We want every visitor — including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technology — to be able to find our services, request a quote, and reach us by phone or email without running into barriers.

We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We consider this site partially conformant: we build to that standard and test against it, but the site has not been independently audited against every success criterion, and the limitations we know about are listed below.

Last reviewed: August 22, 2026

What We've Done

The following accessibility features are built into every page of this site today:

  • Skip-to-content link for keyboard users, a logical tab order, and focus outlines designed to stay visible on light and dark backgrounds alike
  • Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and one properly-structured H1/H2/H3 heading hierarchy per page
  • Descriptive alt text on photos, and labeled form fields with autofill support and errors that are announced to screen readers, not just shown in red
  • Text and interface colors measured against the WCAG AA contrast minimums — 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text, form borders, and focus indicators
  • Site-wide support for the operating-system “reduce motion” preference
  • A keyboard- and screen-reader-accessible accessibility widget (bottom-left of every page) with dyslexia-friendly font, larger text, high contrast, and reduced-motion toggles that persist across visits
  • No autoplaying video with sound — the background clips are muted and hidden from screen readers, and they never load at all when reduced motion is on

Known Limitations

We would rather tell you where this site falls short than let you find out on your own. As of the review date above:

  • The dyslexia-friendly font in our accessibility widget is loaded from a third-party network (jsDelivr). If that network is blocked by your browser, an extension, or a workplace firewall, the toggle will appear to switch on but the typeface will not change. Every other setting in the widget — larger text, high contrast, reduced motion — works without it.
  • The maps on our contact and service-area pages are Google Maps embeds. We do not control their keyboard or screen reader behavior. Everything those maps convey — our service area, and the cities we cover — is also available as plain text and links on the same pages, and you can always reach us by phone or email instead.
  • The large full-width background photographs between sections are decorative, but they still carry descriptive alt text rather than being marked as decorative. Screen reader users will hear a photo description where a sighted visitor sees only a backdrop. This is on our list to correct.

What We're Working On

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We're currently reviewing:

  • Adding more real project photos and fully-described captions as new job-site media comes in
  • Ongoing screen reader testing (VoiceOver and NVDA) across every service and location page as new content is added
  • Periodic review of third-party embeds (like the Google Map) for keyboard and screen reader behavior

Standards We Follow

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, and following them tends to make a site easier to use for everyone. As noted above, we consider this site partially conformant against that standard — see Known Limitations for the gaps we are aware of.
