Project

Commercial Truck Wash — Site & Pad Construction

A highway-frontage commercial build that started as raw caliche and finished as a paved, striped lot handling loaded trucks all day. Every stage below is the same site, shot from the air.

Scope of Work

  • Site clearing and rough grade
  • Building pad construction and compaction
  • Truck-scale turn radius and drive lanes
  • Underground utility trenching
  • Drainage and finish grade
  • Base section prepped for paving

How to Read It

The 15 photos below are the same site in the order the work happened, not a mixed gallery. Frame one is day one on the highway frontage, with the tract stripped and cut in. The last frames are the finished facility, open for business. Everything in between is dirt work: the pad, the base section, the utilities and the drainage.

Use the arrows or the thumbnail strip to move through the stages. Each caption says what that frame is showing and why it mattered to the ones that came after it.

Rough grade — 1 of 15

Day one on the highway frontage: the tract stripped, cut in, and rough-graded so the rest of the job has a flat, known starting point.

What Made This One Interesting

Built for loaded rigs, not cars

A truck site fails at the corners first. The base section along the approach lane went in thick enough for loaded rigs rather than passenger traffic, and the turn radius was roughed in wide and sweeping before anything was paved. Get that radius wrong and the corners get chewed out within a season.

Water sent away from the building

The pad and access drive were cut to shed water away from the structure instead of ponding against it. That shape gets set at rough grade, months before anyone would notice the difference, and the finish grade and flatwork later tied the building into the lot at the elevations the plans called for.

Nothing covered until it checked out

Utility lines were set, stubbed up through the pad and verified before anything got covered and paved over. The footing forms squaring up on a flat, true pad is the visible payoff for getting compaction and elevation right earlier in the job.

One crew, one package

Pad, drives, parking and drainage were all built as one package by one crew. Once the structure started going up we kept grading the frontage and shoulder, staying a step ahead of the other trades instead of holding them up.
